Losing Faith

Wow time flies...I need to get back into a regular routine with this blog...not that anyone reads it...but I miss writing...I have been super busy with work and school and partying too much....basically living life and having fun...I recently read Waiter Rant and it made me realize that I miss writing...and I miss the restaurant industry, of which I will probably never again be a part of. My shoulder is FUBAR and cooking again would DESTROY it.
My new job selling cellphones pays the bills (quite well I must add) but it makes me lose faith in humanity on a daily basis. I have never dealt with as many crazy people as I have on this job. Customer service is not an easy industry to work in. People are demanding and think that everything should go their way, they are entitled to whatever they want...for FREE! (At least according to them.) I unfortunately have the duty of enforcing policies while making the customer happy. Not always an easy balance to strike. In fact a lot of the time its damn near impossible. Customers make mistakes and then expect me to fix them.
"Oh your phone's broken, what's wrong with it? Oh you ran over it? Oh ok is there insurance on the phone? No, well, without insurance the repair fee is 100$...I understand that is expensive....I know thats why we recommend people add insurance to their phones for situations just like this...you could upgrade your phone and extend your contract for a discount on a new phone...oh you dont want to extend your contract...well then its full retail price for a new phone or the repair fee is 100$." On and on we go in circles....and all I want to say is "YOU RAN OVER YOUR PHONE! YOU BROKE IT! YOU CHOSE NOT TO PUT INSURANCE ON THE PHONE! DEAL WITH IT!! DO YOU REALLY EXPECT ME TO GIVE YOU ANOTHER PHONE FOR FREE? PAY UP!!"
I can't even begin to tell you how many times a day I have this SAME conversation with people...I keep hoping that one day people will get it...until then I guess I'll just have to maintain my sanity with my type of meditating: popping bubble wrap...
